About SPS

We are a small self funding charity that stands up for Suffolk's special heritage and landscape qualities through the planning system - its historic buildings, towns and villages and distinctive landscapes. With no political or commercial affiliations, we take a long term strategic view. We help communities to protect and promote their valued landscapes and historic environment and we provide independent advice to district planning authorities.

Our Campaigns page gives of our recent work and the challenges that Suffolk currently faces. Also take a look at Suffolk View - our twice yearly campaigning publication.

We target our resources on major planning applications and those developments that will have the greatest impact on our special places. We can also provide guidance on the planning system by phone or email and aim to support those with planning queries via our Planning Information pages.

Our registered office is the 14th century Little Hall in Lavenham.

The Suffolk Preservation Society acquired the building in 1975 and formed the Suffolk Building Preservation Trust to maintain and ultimately own the building. SPS retains its offices within the building while The Trust operates the remainder as the Little Hall museum which is open to the public.
