Welcome to the Suffolk Preservation Society
Fighting to protect the county you love
We are the only charity dedicated to Suffolk alone that stands up robustly for Suffolk's special qualities - its historic buildings, towns and villages and its distinctive landscapes. SPS also represents the Campaign to Protect Rural England, CPRE in Suffolk - a charity which campaigns for the countryside on the national stage, working to influence Parliament to take account of the public interest in long term development and the use of land for the benefit of all.
Hardly a week passes when the Society does not hear about proposals for insensitively sited energy infrastructure, the destruction of characterful buildings or loss of greenfield land to make way for poorly designed new development. Managing change is complicated by the current extraordinary pace of development, cuts to local planning authorities and the central government view of the planning system. Through the planning system we strive to protect our historic environment by seeking to shape Suffolk's future through appropriate sustainable development, high quality design and sustainable infrastructures.
