Development can impact our landscapes in a variety of ways: whether it is large energy infrastructure, a housing estate on the edge of a village, a commercial scale solar farm in a Valued Landscape, or the increasing number of intensive poultry rearing units across parts of our county. Our landscape is constantly under development pressure.
Even small scale development can have a significant effect upon our landscape. In the wrong place a single dwelling can have a devastating impact on tranquillity and sense of remoteness.
Dark skies are an important characteristic of some of our most sensitive landscapes. Light pollution can easily erode the sense of remoteness or wildness of a deeply rural location.
Good design that works with the landscape and employs an appropriate use of colour, can also make a huge difference to the success of a development. For further information see the national Landscapes Lighting Guide and Use-of-Colour-Guidance-on the Suffolk National Landscapes website (see useful links)
We monitor all planning applications in the county on a weekly basis.
