SPS is a keen advocate of Neighbourhood Planning and supports communities writing a Neighbourhood Plan where we can. We consider this is the best route for communities to shape the future of their areas through the planning process. We can review draft plans at consultation stages offering advice on heritage and landscape policies. We have also run training events for community groups which are at various stages of writing their plan.

The Locality website is a good place to start to find out about neighbourhood planning. Locality provides communities with a wealth of information about neighbourhood planning including details and guidance on applying for grants.

For information and guidance about how to ensure your Neighbourhood Plan offers the best possible protection to the historic environment take a look at the Historic England website.

CPRE has produced excellent guidance to help community groups develop strong landscape policies in their Neighbourhood Plans, to influence future development decisions that would affect their local area. It will be helpful for anyone who is interested in protecting what is special about their local landscape.
