Since 1929, we have been championing the history and heritage of Suffolk. Today, our work spans a number of related areas, which continue to honour the intentions of our founder.
We work with partners to campaign for the preservation and conservation of historic buildings and landscapes, supporting community groups and volunteers with projects that revive important elements of the Suffolk countryside and built environment – finding them new life.
We promote the sustainability of heritage crafts and particularly those represented in the historic buildings and landscapes of Suffolk – like pargetting, flint-knapping, traditional brickmaking and thatching. We achieve this through our Endangered Crafts Fund and through our developing work with colleges.
We empower communities across Suffolk through supporting better neighbourhood planning, enabling towns and villages to gain a greater understanding of the process and giving them greater agency in the face of future development.
We share Suffolk’s history and heritage with our members and with the wider public, through our vibrant events programme, and though our activities and communications. Through our networks across the county, we enable exclusive access to often private historic buildings and estates, and we encourage greater engagement with the stories of Suffolk’s past through learning opportunities including talks, lectures, tours, visits, written articles, and online content.
